What is FIBROSCAN?

Fibroscan is used to detect fat percentage and stiffness (fibrosis) in the liver. Liver fibrosis is caused by multiple reasons like fatty liver(due to long term diabetes or obesity), infections like hepatitis B and hepatitis C, alcoholism, certain drugs.

Who should get a fibroscan done?
All patients who have diabetes/obesity for a long time, patients with hepatitis B, hepatitis C infection, with a history of alcohol consumption are the ideal candidates for fibroscan.

Why should we get a FIBROSCAN done?
To detect the presence of stiffness in the liver early and to intervene. To detect early cirrhosis and follow up closely. To assess the response to the given treatment.
