The two most important symptoms of endometriosis are painful periods and infertility. Is it only these two symptoms matter?
Endometriosis patients suffer from dyspareunia, dyschezia, dysuria, depression, anxiety, fatigue, bloating, infertility, painful periods and many more symptoms which are often dismissed and they are often told: “it’s all in your head”.
All these symptoms slowly affect their quality of life and many women have to leave their jobs as they can’t cope up with their work with pain and other symptoms. It affects finances and ultimately everything including their medical care. Because of pain, they avoid intercourse, and it leads to marital /sexual disharmony. Mothers can’t take care of their kids properly because of various symptoms caused by endometriosis.
This disease is a whole-body disease and not only “painful periods and infertility”. We need to understand and raise more awareness towards this disease and help patients with endometriosis get proper care and treatment in time and help them attain a quality of life which they deserve else it becomes impossible to break the vicious cycle of pain -lack of confidence in handling normal situations- anxiety-inability to concentrate- increased pain.
