Now a days most women are opting for this treatment & gaining confidence in themselfes. Breast reconstruction is achieved through several plastic surgery techniques that attempt to restore a breast to near normal shape, appearance and size following mastectomy.
There are four main types of breast reconstruction.
Reconstruction using a breast implant.
An implant is placed under the skin and muscle that covers your chest to create a breast shape. The most common type of implant used is an implant/expander.
Reconstruction using your own tissue.
Skin, fat and sometimes muscle are taken from another part of your body to make a new breast. This type of operation is more complex than using an implant.
A combination of both an implant and your own tissue.
A breast shape is created using both an implant and skin, fat and sometimes muscle taken from another part of your body.
Your surgeon will advise you on the type of reconstruction that’s most suitable for you.
Reconstruction using your own body fat.
Fat from unwanted areas of the body is harvested and transferred to the breast. An important prerequisite is to use an external expander device for a brief period of time before the surgery.
