The common causes of bleeding per rectum are Haemorrhoids, often called as piles and fissures. The other conditions are infections of the colon, inflammatory disorders of the colon and cancer of the colon.
It is important to find the causes of bleeding per rectum as soon as possible. By simple tests like per rectal examination, stool examination and colonoscopy, the diagnosis can almost be confirmed. For Simple conditions like piles, fissures and fistula either simple medical or surgical procedures may be undertaken depending on the severity of the problem. For other conditions like inflammatory bowel disorders like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease and diverticular diseases, the patient needs to be evaluated properly and necessary steps taken as required.
This condition of bleeding per rectum should not be ignored and needs immediate medical attention.
