Adult Thyroid Disorder

Adult Thyroid Disorder

Thyroid Problem – Now a days a common mostly heard in all age groups. Thyroid stops body growth, leads to many disfunctions, weight gain, ahrmonal imbalance, etc & many more..

Thyroid gland is situated in front of the neck and has two lobes (Right and left) and has a shape similar to butterfly. It utilizes iodine to produce a hormone “Thyroxin”. Thyroxin is released directly into blood circulation and is transported to body organs (cells). Thyroxin is a very important for the proper metabolism and functioning of all body cells. Thyroxin production is controlled by the Pituitary gland via Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The thyroid gland may suffer from different disorders – Under active Gland (Hypothyroidism), Over active gland (Hyper thyroidism) . Sometimes the hormone production maybe normal but there may be lump or swelling in the neck.  One should suspect a thyroid problem- if one has noticed recent fatigue, weight change, altered bowel habits, hair loss, cramps or neck swelling.  Thyroid disorders are assessed by measuring levels of Thyroxin (T4) and TSH in blood. Ultra sound neck with FNAC are used to evaluate the neck mass.
